Cueva de los Verdes

adventure and discovery

Explore Volcanic Tunnels & Lava Tubes

01.

An Experience Of A Life Time.

Discover your inner adventurer as you enter the cave and begin your journey into the underworld…

Without doubt, a visit to the Cueva de los Verdes can not be missed. It is a real journey into the centre of the earth – an amazing and quite unique experience!

The section of the Cueva de los Verdes that can be visited is made up of about a kilometre of superimposed galleries with natural vertical columns between them.

At some points in the tour there are multiple levels, which allows you to explore the caves from many different perspectives.

Some parts of the volcanic tube roof can reach more than fifty metres, with widths that can reach some fifteen metres.

There is plenty to look at while you explore.

strange looking rock formations and structures: lava tubes, massive blocks of lava that have been dragged along by the river like current, large drips of lava, salt deposits and lots more…(we don’t want to give to much away)

The vibrant spectrum of deep colours that adorn the cave walls at different times is quite spectacular. These colours are created by the reflected light shining on salt efflorescences produced by water filtration from the surface.

About The Caves

over 6 km long lava tubes

02.

Monumento Natural del Malpaís de La Corona.

The caves formation was a result of the eruption of La Corona Volcano. Geologists say some 3000 to 5000 years ago…

This gave rise to a pretty extensive underground network of volcanic tunnels. Some of these stretch over six kilometres, coming straight from the volcanic cone itself.

The partial collapse of the roof of any section of a lava tube or cave creates a structure that here in Lanzarote are known as “Jameos” – like Jameos del agua. This is an opening into the cave which gives us access to many of the other cave areas.

The tunnel formed by La Corona Volcano is one of the longest and most interesting on the planet. There are 21 roof collapses (jameos) spread right along its length. Six kilometres of the tunnel has been currently explored; these run directly from the crater of La Corona before entering the sea in an underwater tunnel that is about 1.5 kilometres long. It is known as the Tunnel of Atlantis (Túnel de la Atlántida)
