With its long chain of clean sandy beaches enclosed by many small cliff coves, (perfect for a friendly bit of shade) the clear turquoise waters make up the hidden paradise of Playas de Papagayo.

Papagayo is within the Los Ajaches Natural Park and with the breathtaking backdrop of the Ajaches mountains, it is really not to hard to see why this is a photographer’s or artists dream landscape.

The few sheltered coves usually keep the waters calm, making it a great spot for families to hang out. The crystalline waters of Papagayo also make it the perfect place for a snorkel.

CAMPING

At the very end of the beach towards the east end is a camping area set back from Playa de Puerto Muelas. It is not a large campsite but has adequate basic facilities that include electricity points and a shower/toilet area. If you are going to camp make sure to bring any essentials items with you, including food and water.(do not forget water!)

It is important to remember that you DO need prior authorisation from the local council and must be obtained before you stay there.

On your way to the beach, if you are interested you can always stop and see what the island looks like underneath the lava by visiting Cueva de los verdes or Jameos del Agua.

There are only two restaurants in Papagayo. Both overlooking the

Playa de Papagayo Cove

Enjoy the sunsets and amazing views whilst you enjoy a snack or a well deserved drink.

The two restaurants/bars in Papagayo, are set above the beach areas overlooking the Playa de Papagayo. These two places are the only places in the park that have any services.

Beware if you are not a paying customer, you will be…The will charge you to use their toilets.

The menu is pretty basic and prices a little higher than normal but you will be thankful that they are there!!

This is an amazing place to come and enjoy those burnt orange sunsets, with breath taking vistas that change everyday.
